Wonderbook combines images and sidebars from respected writers with a systematic approach to writing fiction from Jeff VanderMeer. I liked the creativity of the approach and there were nuggets worth digesting scattered throughout. A few suggestions here will give me extra tools to make my fiction better, and since I have already read many writing books, that's rare. However, I found VanderMeer's voice off-putting and he values different aspects of fiction than I do, so I needed to carefully sort what I could use from what would take my writing in the wrong direction for me.
