Predating the bible and perhaps most liturature this is an outstanding illustraion of perhaps 5000 year old poetry, search for meaning, life, purpose and compassion. How man has basically stayed in the same emotional mix for so many centuries. Easy reading, lots of references and relevant since one can see where our religions may originate --- sort of a mini-Northrup Frye book....on mythology. Another of this same type of genre (ie: archaic writings re-tranlated), is Paulo Coelho's, 'manuscrpt found in Accra'. As Accra is under seige by French Crusaders July 14, 1099 and about to fall, a Copt answers questions on such topics as elegance, success, loyalty, and about 2 dozen other topics, a very fond read.

Herbert Mason's Gilgamesh is simply a masterpiece. It is easy to read and flows well. This should be recommended reading, since it deals with the age-old questions and the search for meaning of life. The true meaning of friendship is ilustrated. The story of the flood is reminiscent of the Biblical flood. It seems that each major story line is based or related to a precedent. The notes and comments at the end were most helpful. I read this work 3 times. Seelochan Beharry
